Prevention, diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the gastrointestinal tract and disorders of the organs connected to this tract (liver, gall bladder and pancreas).

  • Reflux oesophagitis

Reflux oesophagitis is a common disorder of the upper gastrointestinal tract. If conservative treatment has not produced the desired result or if pathological changes (laryngitis, etc.) have been detected, surgery (laparoscopic fundoplication) is an effective way of treating the cause.

  • Stomach cancer

Stomach cancer is the fifth most common type of cancer. Stomach cancer is treated with surgery. Part of or all of the stomach is removed. Depending on the spread of the tumour, the surgery may be accompanied by chemotherapy but rarely by radiation.

  • Bowel cancer

Cancer of the bowel is the second most frequent type of cancer in men and women and can normally be healed if detected at an early stage. There is, therefore, an early detection program for people from the age of 50. Besides consultations with a doctor, this encompasses a paper-strip test and a colonoscopy.

  • Acute & chronic pancreatic inflammation

Disorders of the biliary tract (e.g. gallstones) or acute and chronic alcohol abuse are the most frequent causes of acute as well as chronic pancreatic inflammation. It is normally treated conservatively. If the ailment is caused by a gallstone, this is normally removed endoscopically.

  • Gallstones

Gallstones only have to be treated if they are causing problems. Depending on the size of gallstones, they can be dissolved with drugs, crushed from the outside with ultrasound or surgically (endoscopically) removed.

  • Liver cancer

There are various types of malignant tumours in the liver. Smaller tumours can be operated on with good results. Prior to surgery chemotherapy can be performed to reduce the size of the tumour.

  • Gastrointestinal Check-up

Tumors of the digestive tract are the most common malignancies. Although there are many promising therapies, prevention, screening and early detection is the best strategy.
