Intrauterine insemination (IUI) - IVF

The less invasive technique for medically assisted procreation

Intrauterine insemination (IUI) - IVF

The intra-uterine insemination technique is less invasive than IVF. It consists of a mild pharmacological stimulation of follicular growth for ovulation induction. The goal is to mature 2-3 follicles to increase the chances that at least one of them is fertilized. The monitoring of follicular growth synchronizes the deposition of the seed with ovulation, thus increasing the chances of achieving a pregnancy. The actual insemination is performed with a thin catheter through the cervix into the uterine cavity depositing the semen. Then, fertilization takes place in a natural way and the technique does not require painful maneuvers.

The key issue is the preparation of the male seed: after the deposit of the partner, the biologists analyze the semen to find sperm more mobile, so those with higher reproductive potential and possibilities. The success rate of this technique will vary depending on the causes of infertility in the couple, the age of the patient, of the values of the seminal fluid and the type of stimulation carried out.
